John on the issues

1. Fostering Inclusive and Welcoming Schools

Every student deserves to feel valued and included. I aim to promote programs and initiatives that celebrate diversity, encourage mutual respect, and create a nurturing environment for all students.

2. Teacher Retention

Our educators are the backbone of LPS. To retain talented teachers, we must provide competitive compensation, continuous professional development, and a supportive work environment. Recent agreements have increased the base salary for teachers, reflecting our commitment to valuing their contributions but we can always strive for more.

Additionally, initiatives like "Grow Your Own" aim to prepare high school students for careers in education, ensuring a steady pipeline of passionate educators right here at home.

3. Advocating for Alternative Funding at the State Level

To reduce the over-reliance on property taxes and ensure equitable funding for all schools, it's essential to explore and implement alternative funding models. I'm committed to using the collective voice of LPS to successfully lobby our lawmakers at the state level to make any necessary legislative changes to accomplish tax relief for our working class families.

4. Building Business Partnerships for Student Opportunities

Collaborating with local businesses is crucial in providing students with diverse educational opportunities, certifications, and real-world work experiences, especially in the trades. Expanding programs like The Career Academy allows students to gain hands-on experience and earn certifications, preparing them for successful careers post-graduation.

5. Ensuring Safe and Supportive School Environments

In light of national challenges, it's imperative to maintain LPS as a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for our children. This involves implementing policies and practices that protect our students' well-being and promote a sense of security, ensuring that external factors do not disrupt the nurturing environment we strive to provide.

By focusing on these priorities, we can work together to ensure that Lincoln Public Schools continue to thrive and serve the best interests of our students and community.
